Remedial work will continue on New Road following the burst water main. One hole has been filled in. The other has a new valve installed and that will take longer to fill as an access cover needs to be installed.
New Road is officially closed. However, it does seem that barriers have been moved allowing vehicles to pass. You should be aware that moving barriers and driving through a road closure invalidates vehicle insurance.
Spoke to Cambridge Water this morning for an update. They expect road reinstatement by end of today (Tuesday) or Wednesday at the latest.
New Road was closed yesterday evening for emergency repairs on a burst water mains. The mains has been repaired but the road remains closed until remedial work is complete.
A flat bed Iveco truck with trailer was spotted in the field behind Roman Hill. Looked suspicious and has been reported to the police. Number plates belonged to a Range Rover and not a truck.
Please continue to report suspicious activity to the local police.
We had a report of an incident that a resident has been fired at with a BB gun. The matter has been reported to the police. Residents are requested to to be alert and to report any suspicious activity.

For anyone feeling the heat right now, imagine being a poor pooch locked in a car on a day like today.
Despite the many warnings and obvious dangers, we’re sad to say we still received three calls over the weekend about dogs left in hot cars… and today is even hotter!
Thankfully, the dogs in these three vehicles were all unharmed and attending officers were able to locate the owners and give strong words of advice.
According to the RSPCA, if it’s 22 degrees outside, a car can reach 47 degrees in just one hour – even if the car is parked in the shade and the widows are left slightly open (it’s due to reach 33 degrees across our county today).
Heatstroke can be fatal for dogs just as it can be for humans. If you notice a distressed dog alone in a car on a hot day, call 999 immediately.
Meeting at BVH on 1 July 2025 from 6:30 pm until 7:15 pm
Just a reminder that the discussion is around the type of crossing at Kings Grove/Burwash Manor area of New Road and is an important part of the Greenways project. For clarification the options are:
Raised table
This slows motorists down but they maintain priority over pedestrians and cyclists.
Raised table with parallel crossing
A parallel crossing is a zebra crossing with a cycle route alongside. This gives priority to both pedestrians and cyclists to cross the main carriageway.
There will be a meeting at Barton Village Hall from 6:30 to 7:15 pm on Tuesday 1st July 2025, before the full Parish Council Meeting at 7:30 pm.
The Parish Council wants your views on the New Road crossing near Kings Grove and Burwash Manor entrance. The discussion is around whether the crossing should be a raised table or a raised table with a parallel crossing (zebra crossing with cycle crossing alongside).
The meeting will be with residents and Parish Councillors only.
Your input is required for the Parish Council to make a decision in the meeting that follows.
If you are unable to attend but wish to comment, please contact the clerk by email or letter.
Just to clarify from our previous post that the discussion is around a raised table with or without a zebra crossing. A raised table slows traffic down entering the village but pedestrians and cyclists have to wait to cross the road. A raised table with a zebra crossing slows traffic down entering the village but gives priority to pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road. So the discussion is really around the change in priority versus the visual impact on the village in this area.
There will be a meeting at Barton Village Hall at 6:30 pm on Tuesday 1st July 2025, before the full Parish Council Meeting at 7:30 pm.
We will have a presentation by Jonathan Camp of the GCP. Jonathan will discuss the area at the end of New Road shared pavement (Kings Grove/Burwash Manor) where current plans show a raised table. Several residents have expressed a preference for a zebra crossing which will be on the raised table (as was detailed on the plans exhibited on the GCP consultation and public drop in 24 November 2022).
Your input is required for the Parish Council to make a decision in the meeting that follows.
If you are unable to attend the presentation by Jonathan but wish to comment, please contact the clerk by email or letter.
