18 Bus Update

Today the Combined Authority met to review tenders received for various bus routes that Stagecoach East planned to cut this month. A decision will be made public around the 24th October on the outcome of the tendering process which, hopefully, will keep the 18 bus running until the end of March 2023. Some £1.7 million has been set aside to subsidize bus routes cut by Stagecoach.

Transport Surveys

Dear Barton Residents,

Yet more consultations and yet more surveys on transport!

You have probably seen the local news about the proposed Congestion Charge in Cambridge. Our loacl MP, Anthony Brown, has a survey on this topic.

The Greater Cambridgshire Partnership has published their consultation documents on “making connections” and are asking for feedback. This consultation is open until midday 23 December.

Have a read. The current idea is to have more buses, cheaper bus fares and all paid for by a congestion charge.

18 Bus Service

Barton Parish Council has responses from our MP, Anthony Browne, and our District Councillor, Lisa Redrup, about Stagecoach cutting the 18 bus services. The responses are quite long but the important paragraph is below:

“The CPCA has responded by using emergency powers to seek alternative bus operators to continue as many of these services as possible through to March 2023. This process is anticipated to take around 3 weeks, and so we will know more in early October. This information is from a post by Mayor Dr Nick Johnson available at: Mayor Dr Nik Johnson statement on Stagecoach’s withdrawal of bus services from October 30 – Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (cambridgeshirepeterborough-ca.gov.uk). Hopefully there will be more information soon, including potential longer-term solutions such as bus franchising which the CPCA has been investigating and would give public authority control over the routes provided.”
