Are you leaving the door open for Hackers?

Neighbourhood Watch

Why are software updates important?

Software updates are an important part of staying secure online. But why? You’ll often hear about the new features or performance improvements in a software update, but what isn’t talked about as often are the bug fixes and security improvements. Out-of-date software and apps contain weaknesses. This makes them easier to hack. Companies fix the weaknesses by releasing updates. When you update your devices and software, this helps to keep hackers out.

Why would cyber criminals target me?

Your device contains a lot of personal data that is highly valuable if it fell into the hands of a fraudster. The likelihood is your device will contain your full name, date of birth, address, bank details, passwords, as well as many other forms of personal data such as private photos or videos.

Improve your online security by using automatic software updates

We understand it can sometimes be annoying to remember to update your devices every time a new update is released, that’s why we encourage you to enable automatic updates wherever it’s available. That means you don’t have to manually install updates every time they’re released.

We’ve provided some useful links below where you can find step by step instructions on how to enable automatic updates for your devices and apps.

Green Bin Collection Changes

Dear Residents,

I hope this find you well. If you have not already seen yesterday evening or this morning, please see our press release regarding the suspension of green bin from Monday 13 December:

https://www.scambs.gov.uk/green-bin-collections-suspended-from-monday-13-december/, https://www.cambridge.gov.uk/news/2021/12/08/green-bin-collections-suspended-from-monday-13-december

At present, the collections will resume on Wednesday 12 January 2022 in line with the Christmas collection date changes. As the green bin collections would have turned turn to their usual 4-weekly cycle from w/b 27 December/3 January, the suspension is adding an extra two weeks to this, so residents will only be missing one green bin collection throughout the planned suspension. Residents are advised to check the websites for updates and for their collection days via the online calendar which have been updated to reflect this. If you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

For additional information, below is a copy of the bin collection dates changes over the festive period. (Note Barton days are normally Wednesday.)

Making Connections Consultation

Transport Consulation

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to respond to our ‘Making Connections: have your say on greener travel in Greater Cambridge’ consultation.

We want to hear from you and there’s still time to share your views, either via the online survey or at one of the events we have planned. The proposals are of interest to everyone who lives in or travels to Greater Cambridge, whether for work, education or leisure.

The consultation sets out three main areas on which we’d like to hear people’s thoughts:

  • A new bus network: At the heart of the proposals is an expanded and transformed bus network, offering more frequent services, with longer operating hours, more rural connections, and new routes into our growing employment sites.
  • Funding transport improvements: A new public transport network will need funding and lower congestion to run. There are two main ways to free up road space and raise money to invest in better bus services and more cycling and walking infrastructure – a road charging zone, or additional parking charges. We’d like to hear what people think about these.
  • Better cycling and walking routes and high quality public spaces: lower traffic levels would create more opportunities to improve routes for people cycling and walking. Lower traffic levels and better air quality would also create more opportunities to provide high quality public spaces for people to enjoy.

Events

There are a number of events taking place over the consultation period:

Wednesday 1 December, 4pm-5.45pm and 6pm-7.45pm This is a joint in-person event with our Cambridge Eastern Access consultation

  • The Abbey Stadium, Newmarket Road, Cambridge, CB5 8LN (please use Cutthroat Lane)
  • There’s still time to register to attend this event. Please register at http://ow.ly/RNZy50GC9PI

The event will be in person and there are two separate sessions on the evening. Each session will include a presentation on each of the two consultations, followed by a question-and-answer session.

We are asking people to register online to ensure we are following Covid-19 guidelines. The event space will be sanitised between sessions and all GCP employees will be wearing facemasks whenever they are not presenting.

Monday 13 December, 6.30pm, online public consultation event via Zoom

Tuesday 14 December, 6-8.30pm, North GCP Community Forum online via Zoom

The consultation closes at midday on Monday 20 December 2021.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority Budget

C&PCA Budget Have your say

Have your say on how we’re spending our money, and the new way we’re working to bring compassion, co-operation and community to our work.

We’re delighted to be consulting on both our draft budget and medium-term financial plan, and our draft sustainable growth ambition statement until 31 December 2021.

We’re asking for everyone’s views on the way we’re spending our money, and the new way we’re working to ensure that we’re bringing the Mayor’s values of compassion, co-operation and community to how we work.

This means that we’re planning for our decisions going forward to measure up against six keys to unlock our prosperity and ensure our policies are always focused on the sustainable growth for the people of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

This consultation is a huge opportunity for people to find out more about how we’re spending money, and how we make decisions.

We want to hear from as many of you as possible as part of this consultation: your expertise as our locally elected members will really help us to shape the way we make policies in the future.

Find out more and tell us what you think

We would also really appreciate you sharing the message with your contacts- by forwarding this email, or by letting people know on social media.
