Village Pond Update

Dear Residents,

Many of you will have heard about or seen, there have been a number of dead fish in the pond over the last few days following the recent heavy rains.

The PC have been in touch with the Environment Agency who came out to the village yesterday afternoon and have taken some water samples for testing. We are waiting for the official report but initial findings do not suggest the fish deaths are a result of contamination. The Environment Agency Officer’s preliminary conclusions were that the heavy rain and stormy weather caused an oxygen inversion within the pond’s water column causing deoxygenated water at the bottom of the pond to switch places with the oxygenated water nearer the surface where the fish live.  The fish living nearer the surface therefore sadly are likely to have died from suffocation.

We will await for the final report and keep residents updated.

Our huge thanks to John Boocock and David Hodge for all their hard work in removing and disposing of the dead fish over the last few days.
