Anyone seen suspicious activity on the lower end of the High Street yesterday afternoon (Thursday 18 January 2024)? New gas cylinders delivered in the afternoon. Home owner found the pipes cut and cylinders stolen this morning (Friday).
You may already have seen the village Facebook page with the link to the interview with Richard Sockett. Richard is a lovely man and did a lot for our village. We now know the reason why he left the Post Office.
From a resident on Mailes Close, Barton
“Just to let you know and thought worth mentioning to you.
I think there was an opportunist wandering around our street in the early hours of this morning.
I went out this morning to find our car door ajar and all the compartments in the car wide open with some things moved around.
Nothing taken as far as we can see, only maybe some loose change.
We may have mistakenly left the car unlocked, thus no forced entry.
Have you heard of any issues in the village?”
A ring was found this afternoon/evening on Church Lane near St Peter’s Church. Please contact Barton PC if it is yours or you if you know someone who has lost a ring today.
Reports of suspicious activity in Barton yesterday evening where it looks as if this chap was “casing the joint”.
The road is blocked at the recreation ground turn on the main road through Comberton. In addition to the closures for road works as part of Comberton Greenways project, a coach decided to turn round at the junction to Comberton Recreation ground and dropped its rear wheels into the ditch on the corner.
A set of keys were found in the bus shelter opposite Perennial Houses (near Foxcotte’s) Comberton Road today. Please contact Barton Parish Council if they are your keys.
As Halloween approaches, we would like to emphasise the importance of keeping safe whilst having a spooktacular time!
If you’ve got children heading out for trick-or-treating, please remind them of the importance of being mindful of those who do not wish to participate in the holiday. In order to respect those who may not wish to participate for a manner of reasons, we ask that you do not knock on the doors of those who have ‘no trick or treaters’ signs or even those without any lights/decorations displayed.
With it getting darker earlier, you can help make it safer for children by keeping your outdoor lights on. Furthermore, ensure that children are accompanied by a responsible adult.
For those thinking of taking part in the ‘trick’ aspect of Halloween, it is important to keep in mind that any deliberate behaviour that results in damage or hurts someone is a crime.
We hope you won’t need us, but as with any other day of the year, we are at the end of the phone if you need us and will have our neighbourhood officers on patrol across the country as a visible presence.
You can find more information and where to report any issues via our dedicated webpage.
