Have Your Say on Transport

HAVE YOUR SAY on our transport future

Hello,

It is now your chance to take part in the full public consultation for the developing Local Transport and Connectivity Plan (LTCP) for Cambridgeshire & Peterborough.

The LTCP will set the strategy for making transport better in the region and we want as many people as possible to have a say.

The Combined Authority has today launched a 12-week public consultation, running until the end of the day August 4.

The LTCP will update the current local transport plan adopted by the Combined Authority in January 2020.

The draft LTCP is guided by a vision and key goals and objectives, helping to make our transport better, faster, safer and more reliable. It will address the big issues like climate change, pollution, inequality, and public health.

Whether you use public transport, a car, cycle, walk or wheel, your feedback will help improve the final LTCP. Once the feedback has been analysed, a final LTCP is expected to be put to the Combined Authority’s Board later in 2022.

It’s easy to take part and you can provide feedback in a number of ways.

Here’s how:

  • The website: More information and a simple survey form is available via www.yourltcp.co.uk.
  • Drop in consultation events.
  • Hard copy consultation brochure and survey form pick up points.
Survey forms include a freepost address.

A list of consultation events and consultation brochure pick up points is available here.

To contact the LTCP consultation team:

If you took part in the public engagement exercise in November 2021, your feedback has been reviewed and has helped to shape the draft plan being consulted on this spring and summer.

A draft of the full LTCP can be read here.

If you know someone who you think would be interested in taking part in the consultation, please spread the word.

Kind regards

Combined Authority Transport Team

Plantinum Jubilee Book

Platinum Jubilee book to arrive in primary schools from mid-May

Primary school children across the UK will begin to receive ‘Queen Elizabeth: A Platinum Jubilee Celebration’

Children in state-funded primary schools across the United Kingdom will, from mid-May, begin to receive a free commemorative book to mark Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.

Designed as an official once-in-a-lifetime commemoration of the Platinum Jubilee and written in collaboration with royal experts and historians, the book will tell the story of a young girl, Isabella, visiting her Great Granny Joyce who tells her about the Queen and this year’s Jubilee.

In the story, Isabella sifts through Great Granny Joyce’s treasure box of souvenirs, which act as introductions to the contents of the book. These include recent and historical events across the United Kingdom and Commonwealth, inspirational people, landmark innovations and inventions, and a selection of the best art, design, and culture.

The book will also include famous quotes from the Queen, facts on the coronation ceremony, content on the lives of famous Commonwealth figures such as Nelson Mandela, notable kings and queens and a timeline of Queen Elizabeth’s life.

Children will be invited to personalise their individual copies of the illustrated reference book, by signing a ‘this book belongs to’ section at the beginning of the book. The page reads: ‘During [the Queen’s] reign, the world has changed in so many ways… [This book] will help you understand the amazing life and times of our Queen and the magic of the unique, unshakable bond she shares with the people she serves.’

The book will also help children understand how the four nations came together as one United Kingdom, including details such as Owain Glyndwr’s rebellion against the English in 1400 to take the title of ‘Prince of Wales’, on the journey to the Queen’s reign which continues to this day.

The book goes on private sale from 23 June.

Local Neighbourhood Watch Priorities

Priorities Set For South Cambs

Dear Subscriber,

Thank you to the residents of South Cambridgeshire who joined us for our online meeting last night.

For those who were unable to join us this time around, we heard from the South Cambridgeshire team about what they have been doing to tackle drugs, anti-social behaviour and speeding in the area.

Speeding – Special Inspector Stephen Mudie and his team of volunteers have been focusing efforts across South Cambs while officers are working with local Speedwatch co-ordinators to help build capacity in the community.

Drugs – Following intelligence received from the community we have carried out six warrants and there will be more to come. We’ve carried out numerous stop searches for drugs with positive results.

Anti-Social Behaviour – We’ve seized four e-scooters in Cambourne, carried out patrols of our green spaces across villages, engaged with the community to develop intelligence and offer reassurance. We’ve also visited the parents of young people who have been involved in ASB. There has also been lots of partnership working with South Cambs District Council around households that are perpetrating the ASB.

We talked through the survey results (see below) before we opened up the floor to residents for further discussion where many of the points already captured were spoken about in more detail.

Results of the survey – a snap shot
We had 387 responses to our online survey, including people from each ward across South Cambs, enabling us to get a good understanding of what is happening in each area and what issues concern you the most.

Anti-social driving came out as the most critical issue followed closely by anti-social behaviour and drug dealing.

So what next?
At the end of the meeting we agreed to continue to focus efforts on the below. This will be alongside our daily priorities (which can be viewed here).

  • Drugs
  • Speeding
  • Anti-Social Behaviour

Our very genuine desire is to focus the team on the things that are of the highest risk and concern for you, our residents.

The South Cambs Neighbourhood Team will now provide regular updates to these priorities on the force Facebook and Twitter page over the coming weeks and months. We will then look to begin this process again with another meeting held on 9 August. You can register your attendance here.

Thank you for participating in this process. If you have any concerns in the meantime, visit our website.

Accident in Barton

Hello,

You probably aware of the head-on collision earlier this week in Barton. Both cars involved were written off. Apparently one of the drivers was blinded by low sun. Low sun is a problem on Comberton Road and New Road at certain times. If you cannot see STOP. Do not take a chance.

Queen’s Jubilee Celebrations

We are 7 weeks away from Barton’s celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The first event will be the unveiling of a plaque on, what we are now calling, “The Jubilee Triangle” in the centre of the village. This will take place around midday on Saturday 4th June. The Hoops will be open for drinks from about 11:30. In the afternoon there will be a picnic at the recreation ground with teas available at the Pavilion, entertainment by JezO’s, fancy dress and family fun. One important afternoon event will be the dedication of the Oak tree planted on the Leys which is now protected by a “Crown” tree guard made by the blacksmith. Later in the afternoon will be the Grand Prize draw and Golden ticket draw.

Evening entertainment is provided by JezO’s and Luna and the Wolfs. Two sets of live music by Luna and tracks spanning the decades of the Queen’s reign when the band are not on stage. Food and drink can be purchased on site with food vans and bar available from 6 pm. Planned close is midnight.

Attached is a flyer to share. More details will be available on Grand Prize draw ticket purchase in the coming weeks.

Speedwatch

Dear all,

We had a Community Speedwatch Wednesday 6th April 2022 on Wimpole Road. Present was the area coordinator and the area police road safety improvement officer. We counted 330 vehicles in the session with 26 travelling at more than 35 mph (recorded speeding threshold). When speedwatch volunteers are out and about, drivers do slow down. Speeding offenses tend to fall in an area where speedwatch is active. We try to conduct speedwatch twice a month, but do need more people to help. If you would like to volunteer, then please contact gro.egallivnotrab@nitram.werdna">Andy Martin. Training is now remote, so it is fairly easy. Practical sessions simply involve joining a speedwatch with experienced volunteers. If you are concerned about speeding in our village and are happy to give up a hour or so of your time on a couple of occasions each month, then please join our group.

Barton Needs You

Parish Council elections are coming up in May. Barton needs more willing people to help run the Parish Council. It is one way of helping maintain our village and a way of giving back to the community. The PC is responsible for a range of amenities and assets from playground equipment to grass verge cutting, from notice boards to car park gates. We also have an important role in liaising with the District Council and County Council over bigger local issues such as transport, social needs and planning. There are six meetings a year with working groups meeting in between these formal public meetings. If you have an interest in the first level of government and want to make an impact on how we manage and improve our community, then please put your name forward. You many also know someone that would be a good candidate. Please pass on their details and we can contact them.

Queen’s Jubilee Tree

You may have noticed a new oak  tree that has been planted on the leys near the car park and playground. This is now protected by a tree guard. The tree and guard is part of our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. It was hand crafted by our village blacksmith Henrich Zelinka and erected by John Boocock and his crew. Many thanks to John for organizing this with design input from the Jubilee committee. Official unveiling with the addition of commemorative plaque will take place on Saturday afternoon 4th June.
