Catalytic Converter Marking
Recent thefts of Catalytic Converters have promoted local Police to organize a free CAT marking session. This is in Peterborough on Sunday 13th November between 10am and 2.30pm at Kwik Fit in Maskew Avenue, Peterborough.
If you would like your vehicle to be marked, please register here. You will need to provide your name, registration number and email address/phone number to attend.
Alternatively you can buy marking kits online. One example is with SelectaDNA. Kits contain labels with unique codes that are linked to a police database that, once applied, are hard to remove from the CAT. Warning signs are included to display in vehicle windows.
There are other options to protect CATs including locking plates or covers. These would be more specific to vehicle type.
Some cars are more tempting than others to CAT thiefs. 4x4s, SUVs, Hybrids and vans usually have CATs with higher precision metal content and have CATs that are more easily accessible.
Try to keep vehicles locked in garages, use CCTV cameras, try to avoid remote areas of car parks. Many CATs have been stolen at Park & Ride locations so please be vigilant at these sites.
