Cycle Helmets
There was a serious accident between two cyclists at the junction of New Road and the A603 (Cambridge Road) on Wednesday afternoon resulting in one cyclist being taken to hospital with a serious head injury. The cyclist was not wearing a helmet.
We recognise that it is not compulsory to wear a cycle helmet but it is likely that this accident would not have resulted in such a serious injury if a helmet was worn. We, therefore, encourage cyclists to wear a helmet and to ensure that helmets are available and well fitted for all family members when out on their bikes.
We would also like to remind all cyclists that care should be taken when approaching bends and blind corners and that they should slow down. It is not the first time that an accident has occurred at this spot between cyclists.
